For 2008, we are bringing you an exciting international and UK mix of film, video and
curatorial styles. We’re working with a number of partners this year to deliver a diverse
programme of work from across the globe, which includes a screening by the excellent
Olsen at the Duke of York’s cinema with tea, homemade cake and tips on hand-processing
film on 18 May; A Wall is a Screen from Hamburg will be creating a moving image tour
of Brighton for White Night on 25 October; and Northwest Film Forum in Seattle are
doing a film exchange with us later in the year - deadline for submissions to take part
in this cross-Atlantic trade is: 15 July 2008.
Our first event is on 29 April, and will be a curated screening of videos from YouTube, selected in collaboration with Nadege Derderian and Orion Maxted from protoPLAY. A screening of touching, angering, curious, visceral and ever-so voyeuristic pieces, taken from the mass contemporary ‘archive’ of YouTube.
Events will be taking place across the city of Brighton, so please make sure you check where screenings are happening. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
videoclub is a showcasing opportunity for artists who are pushing film, video and moving image practice. videoclub is responding to the increasing interest in moving image work created by artists, we are also responding to the limited opportunities available to see and critically discuss quality moving image work that is artist based.
Our intention is to support artists, but also to showcase new artists' film, video and moving image work to the public to increase public engagement with moving image, and to create opportunities for critical engagement with contemporary art work.
